2009 VAUD-VILLITIES SHOW CAMP

Note from Delena Doan, Chairman:

$1200 check was presented to me for the Vaud Villities Show Camp at the June 16 event.  That check combined with the $921 from last June allows Vaud-Villities to offer free scholarships to Columbus City School students.  We have 24 excited students registered....and 18 on a waiting list.  The money came from the Raffle that CEA-R does at all events.  The camp will be held at Northland High School.

Judy also received this thank you letter.

On behalf of our Vaud-Villities charity and community of volunteers, please accept our most heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional support of CEA-R.  We simply would not have been able to continue our summer Kids Show Camp this season without your generous financial assistance.  As a result of your partnership, 24 Columbus City Schools students will attend our camp on full scholarship!

We welcome and sincerely hope that you and your members can join us for the culminating performance on Saturday, July 25, 2:00pm at Northland High School auditorium.  You will witness firsthand the pure joy and clear boost to self-esteem these children experience as they dance and sing the songs they learned in the costumes and sets they prepared for their show.

This camp program is a very worthy one that we intend to grow over time.  Its success now and in the future is directly attributable to your kindness and generosity.  Words cannot fully express our sincere gratitude.

 Very truly yours,

Kent D. Stuckey, Board Chairman, Vaud-Villities Productions Inc.

Beginning with the June 16, 2009 meeting, the Board voted unanimously that future raffles would benefit the Katonak Grant.  This grant benefits CCS teachers and operates through the Columbus Foundation.  It is a grant started by Joanne Katonak in honor of her late husband.  It supports the arts programs in CCS and helps purchase materials that would otherwise not be attainable.

XEROX IS DOING SOMETHING COOL

If you go to this web site, WWW.LetsSayThanks.Com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq . You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services.  It is FREE and it only takes a second.

Whether you are for or against the war, our soldiers over there need to know we are behind them.

While listening to the radio on my way to work this morning, I heard an interview with a woman who had lost her son in a car accident. She was unable to be contacted for 7 hours after her son was injured and he died alone. By initiating the "Next of Kin Bill," signed into law by Governor Strickland on May 1, 2008, she has worked to ensure that each driver in the state of Ohio can register 2 emergency contacts (with up to 3 telephone numbers each) through the BMV to be contacted in the event of an emergency. This is a very simple procedure that took me less than 3 minutes to complete online. You can get more information by going to http://www.myemergencycontactinfo.org. You can also go right to the Ohio BMV web site (http://www.ohiobmv.com) and click on the bar that says "View/Edit your next of kin/emergency contact info."

And please, pass this on to every Ohio resident in your email address book!!

How would law enforcement find your loved ones if you were in an accident?  The only information first responders have to identify you is the address on your drivers license.  Is someone always home at the address on your drivers license? If not, the police then must begin a time intensive search to find your loved ones.  Precious hours that will pass before your family knows you are injured and have been taken to a hospital.  The national average is SIX HOURS before law enforcement can locate next of kin!

The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles now offers you the opportunity to voluntarily provide emergency contact information.  All you need is your Ohio Drivers License or State ID.  Then click on this link www.ohiobmv.com to enter the two people you would like to be notified if you are injured and unable to speak.  Your emergency contact information  is very secure and can only be accessed by authorized law enforcement personnel.

This means that your loved ones can be found within minutes.....not hours after you have been involved in any kind of accident!

CEA-R Presents Annual Scholarships

CEA-R presents two annual  $500 scholarships to two children of employees of the Columbus City Schools.  One scholarship is named  the Joan Donley Scholarship in  honor of our first CEA-R president.  The scholarship winners are chosen by the CEA scholarship committee.  The scholarships are presented at the annual CEA banquet.

CEA-R JOINED THE REACH OUT AND READ PROGRAM

CEA-R has joined with CEA, Central Ohio OEA/NEA, American Academy of Pediatrics, Channel 10,  and the AARP Foundation in the Reach Out and Read  Program.  This is a pediatric literacy program dedicated to encourage family literacy activities in the home. Books are provided by the pediatrician during well-child visits. The families are encouraged to take these books home. Click to learn more about Nationwide Children's Reach Out and Read.

The pediatricians at Nationwide Children's Hospital and others made the 2007 Community Book Drive a success.    The target  age of the children is six months to five years.   The program does accept  books up to an 8th grade reading level. Gently used books are also accepted.    Each group including CEA-R provided books.   In addition, we asked individual  members to contribute books.  We probably all have books from our days in the classroom (not CPS textbooks!). We  collected  books during the month of March.  If you wish to contribute new or gently used books, contact  Marilyn Allen (299-4841 or mrasecond@webtv.net)   Thanks for your support in this worthwhile project.

TRAVELERS, YOU CAN HELP

One of our CEA-R members is requesting  help from fellow travelers.  Please pick up the extra soap, shampoo, etc. that you find in your hotel room and bring them to any CEA-R event.  These items will be given to homeless men and women who come for breakfast each Sunday at New Life Methodist Church.

          HELP US WITH YOUR E-MAIL

E-mail saves time and postage and helps us stay in touch.  Contact CEA-R Vice-President Karen Zellner via e-mail at OSUed64@columbus.rr.com or phone her at 614-529-0278 to provide your e-mail address or when you change the address.
